CLEANSING AND DETOXIFICATION
What is it and why do it?
WHY CLEANSE? 
Wherever and however we live today, people are exposed to a wide variety of nonfood chemicals, including drugs, industrial chemicals, pesticides, household cleaning agents, cosmetics, and food additives (such as preservatives, binding agents, coloring agents, and flavoring agents). Substances not normally found in the body. Whether ingested, absorbed through the skin or inhaled, foreign substances are distributed within the body, often metabolized by pathways that exist for the metabolism of natural body substances.
Foreign substances and/or their metabolic products are usually eliminated in urine or from the liver, in bile. Our body’s mechanism of operation is the consumption of air, water and food, to be used for fuel in its day to day activities. That fuel is used for every bodily function, ALL physical activities, including the beating of our heart, our thought processes and our emotions. Food is consumed, digested, absorbed into our blood and carried to every cell in our body. The remaining unusable parts of the food are eliminated through the colon. During this process our liver filters all of our blood to remove any toxins. But what happens when the system is overloaded?
Anywhere in this process, our body can become overwhelmed and overloaded. For example, if the colon is not eliminating the amount it is supposed to or is too slow, the toxic load from the waste material begins to build up. The consumption of more toxins than the liver can filter effectively results in liver congestion, and inefficient blood filtering. Therefore, the cells become toxic, and malfunction, the early stage of disease.
Fortunately, cleansing the cell of toxins, improving and restoring healthy cell function can restore optimal health. What is the first step? The process of cleansing will assist your body to eliminate these toxins more efficiently. For centuries, people from many cultures have taken the time to practice ritual cleansing, typically in the spring months, in order to promote wellness and vitality. This was traditionally done through fasting, sweating (i.e. sweat lodges, steam baths, and saunas) and by purging the body. Colon Hydrotherapy results in the thorough evacuation of fecal material from the colon. Fecal material is one of the body’s most toxic substances. Colon Hydrotherapy also boluses the liver with freshly diluted blood allowing it to dilute and eliminate its toxic load, filtered from the blood. Consequently, the cells are free to eliminate their toxic load, reducing the possibility of malfunction and disease. Cleansing must be followed by a healthier lifestyle that includes an improved diet, exercise, fresh air, sunshine, and a positive outlook on life, to foster sustained results. If you eat fairly balanced meals, live an active life, and don’t poison your body with too many toxins, you are already among an elite group. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control revealed that, in the United States, only about one in five people participate in any aerobic activity at a high-intensity level, and there are still one in four who don’t participate in any activity at all. 
Good results with lasting quality will not be evident as long as destructive habits are continued. So if you are doing something, watching what you eat, and generally feel pretty good, then give yourself a huge pat on the back. HOW TO CLEANSE
There are thousands and thousands of cleanses available for your use. Some are manufactured for retail sale while others are passed down from generation to generation. All have a common goal, reducing your body’s toxic load. Cleansing is much like life; you have to learn to walk before you learn to run. Only you can determine what your next step is. If you are just starting out then attempt a 1 day cleanse before you attempt a 10-day cleanse. For beginners, start with healthy

As stated earlier, only you can determine your next step. If you are very motivated your next step may be a 10-day cleanse. However, do not get discouraged if you are not able to complete a10 day cleanse. You may need to learn how to walk before you run.
If at any time you are unsure, consult a member of your health care team that is experienced with the cleansing process.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CLEANSE

1. Throughout a cleanse, drink lots of water – drink at least one half your body weight in water daily. Our body is 98% water. Our digestive system uses approximately 9 liters of fluid for its digestive processes daily. Water is required to dilute and transport toxins from the cells for elimination.
2. Ensure that your channels of elimination are functioning at their optimum, primarily your bowels. 2-3 healthy bowel movements per day. Better still!!!! Have a Colonic or home enema DAILY! (For effective home enemas consult your Colon Hydrotherapist)
3. Drink nutrient-rich liquids, such as fresh juices. They help to alkalize your body, decrease your sugar cravings, and provide you with much needed nutrients. We do not detoxify the toxic material just by eliminating bowel wastes. The cells must be fed to develop tissue integrity to carry on healthy cell processes.
4. Cleanse in an environment without distractions. Make informed decisions. Educate yourself. The lifestyle of industrialized nations is influenced not only by the media but also by our family and peers. What, when and how we eat is a part of who we are individually and within our family and peer groups. Making changes to that lifestyle may not happen without some challenges. Be comfortable in your decision to do a cleanse. Address the fears and challenges of others with the information and knowledge you have acquired, and do it anyway.

Unfortunately, all of this extra activity can also bring injuries, bug bites and other problems that can take away from summer fun and frolic. Homeopathic treatment is a gentle and effective means of treating many of these first aid conditions and a treatment that everyone can use in your own home.
First Aid Tips for a Healthy, Happy Summer

Any type of injury will cause the body to go into defensive action. The body’s intent is always to heal itself and thus, return the self to a normal state. This is not always possible and it is in these instances that homeopathy can greatly help. Remedies are capable of stimulating a response that will ultimately return the body to homeostasis.
The following are suggestions for common first aid problems that arise around the home:
1. Arnica: Great trauma remedy. Can be used to minimize soreness or inflammation before and after exercise, surgery, injury or chiropractic treatments. Used for bruising, bleeding and black eyes. Pain feels sore, aching, “as if beaten”.
2. Calendula: Useful in any open wound or abrasion, acts as a cleanser, topically or internally. To use externally, dissolve in some water and apply to wound. Also comes in a cream form for wounds. Great as an alternative cream for eczema, chicken pox, acne, herpes, hives, etc. for itchy, chaffed or broken skin. Apply as needed.
3. Apis: Useful for bites of mosquitoes, bees or wasps. Good to have on hand for people with bee allergies. Bite looks swollen, puffy and shiny red. Has burning or stinging pain, like hot needles.
4. Arsenicum: Useful in food poisoning, especially when there is severe diarrhea and intense thirst for sips of cold water. Restlessness, burning pains in stomach. Poisoning from bad fish or meat, canned food, old cheese, alcohol. Faintness and exhaustion.
5. Nux Vomica: The “hangover remedy”. Helps with the effects of overeating, abuse of drugs, alcohol and coffee. Also useful in food poisoning and “simple” reactions to bad food. Intense cramping, sore abdomen and intestines.
You may purchase these remedies at most health food stores. Remedies come in different potencies, 30 C and 200 C being the most easily found in stores. Start with the lower potency (30C) to see how your body reacts. Take 2 pellets and let dissolve under your tongue, being careful not to touch the pellets. Take 15 minutes away from any substance other than water. You should notice some sort of improvement within an hour or so. If you do not, you may take another dose. Once you notice an improvement, WAIT and let the medicine do its work. In homeopathy, more is not necessarily better. You should take another dose only when you notice the symptoms coming back. Keep the medicine away from any strong smelling substances such as menthol, eucalyptus oil, etc. Consult your doctor or a professional homeopath if symptoms do not improve.

Carrot or vegetable pulp from juicing (about 5 cups)
1 clove crushed garlic
1/2 cup basil, chopped or dried handful cilantro, chopped
2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 cup (or more) sprouted and crushed nuts (almonds, sesame, sunflower...etc.)
sea salt, dulse or braggs to taste
Use a spatula to spread over teflex sheet in dehydrator or pan in oven and dehydrate for about 8 hrs or until completely dry. Wonderful with guacamole or other dips! Also a great way to make convenience food out of compost.

Chewing your food is a lot like breathing - something you do without thinking about it.
